VAAN Mission

VAAN is a collaborative effort by the Undergraduate Admission Office, U.Va. Clubs and the Alumni Association to extend and complement the recruiting efforts of our Undergraduate Admission Office. Through the VAAN program, volunteer alumni reach out to prospective students through person-to-person interaction in 5 geographic areas: Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, New York and Tidewater.

Progress Report

With 2008 underway, the Office of Admission, Alumni Association and Office of Regional Engagement met to talk about the status of the VAAN program in the first year of its pilot phase. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response from both volunteers and the University, we discussed ways to expand the program, specifically to increase the number of students requesting meetings. While most actions will be undertaken at our end, there are some ways that you can help:

1. Talk to high school-aged students in your community, church or civic organization. Encourage them to consider college and let them know that you are available to talk to them about U.Va. 
2. Consider holding your VAAN meeting at the student’s high school. The student might find a meeting at school less intimidating and easier to work into his/her schedule.
3. Get involved with your local school’s committee by attending evening programs, representing U.Va. at college fairs or making congratulatory calls. To find the U.Va. club in your area, please visit the following Web site: http://uvaclubs.virginia.edu/
