Summer Enrichment Programs
Offered to University students
Each summer the University of Virginia offers a rich selection of courses to over four-thousand students through its Summer Session. Many of these courses are not available during the academic year. Summer Session students have access to an array of support services and extra-curricular activities.

Enrollment is open to advanced high school students, graduate and undergraduate students, professionals, and members of the local community.
The Summer Language Institute offers nine-week courses in French, German, Italian, Latin, Russian, Spanish, Tibetan, and Chinese. Students attend classes five days a week, six hours a day. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are developed in a student-centered environment.

Rising 5th through 11th graders
The Saturday Enrichment Program is a program for gifted and/or high ability students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Activities in the program are designed to: Expose students to new interest areas; Provide interaction with students with similar interests and abilities; Enhance interest in learning by providing stimulating and challenging activities; Encourage creative/productive thinking and expression; Foster skills for independent learning.

Rising 9th graders to rising college freshman
The Young Writers Workshop of the University of Virginia, established in 1982, brings together a community of writers with a common purpose: to create a supportive and noncompetitive environment where teenagers can live and work as artists.

Rising 9th graders-12th graders
The program features a Virginia-focused, multidisciplinary curriculum with three main goals: to prepare future leaders for ethical and responsible citizenship and public service; to connect youth leaders from different backgrounds and philosophies with each other and current public leaders; and to energize our democratic system of government by promoting civic engagement in youth leaders. The participants engage in substantive debate about the public challenges facing the Commonwealth and interact with Virginia's current public, private, and nonprofit sector leaders.

6 months through 12 years of age
The purpose of the Swimming's Cool program is to help children learn to be safe in the water by teaching basic aquatic skills. Our quality swimming instruction is geared toward individual needs and is designed to increase the student's comfort level in the water. Instructors emphasize the development of swimming skills and an awareness of water and pool safety.

Rising 4th through 12th graders
The mission of Summer Arts @ the Museum is to provide an environment that encourages young artists to explore and create Art. This year Summer Arts @ the Museum will explore art and ideas related to historical and imaginary cultures.

7-18 year olds
Since 1975, over 25,000 campers have improved their performance in academics, golf and tennis while having fun and making new friends from all around the world at 4 Star Camps. Camps are located at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. Both sites are within easy driving distance of Washington, DC.
