Frequently Asked Questions
These questions pertain to the Networking subcommittee of the Reunion Committee. If you have questions about the Giving subcommittee, please contact Beth Bishop, Director of Reunion and Leadership Annual Giving.
The committee meets only once in September. Conference calls may be arranged to supplement communication throughout the year.
Committees vary in size from 50 people to 150 people. The size of a Network committee is relative to the size of its class (larger classes will have larger committees) and the attendance goals set by the Alumni Association and class leadership (classes with larger attendance goals will recruit more members).
If you were not in attendance at the Workshop, you can notify your Class Director or Chairs of the groups you would like to contact. For example, if you were a Drama major and also a member of University Singers, you might sign up to contact those two groups. You can sign up for student organizations, fraternities/sororities, dorms, majors, schools, geographic region, etc.
You will be asked to network with your assigned groups at three points in the year: once in the fall (by November), once in the winter (by February), and once in the spring (by May).
Yes. Your reunion chairs and your Alumni Association class director will be in frequent contact with you to remind you to network at the appropriate times.
All of your classmates’ information will be available to you through Sharepoint. Additionally, the Alumni Association will provide you with contact information (e-mail, phone numbers, addresses) for the people you are assigned to contact if needed. Online tools, such as Facebook and LinkedIn are also great networking tools.
You may contact people by whichever means you are most comfortable, however, nothing is more effective than a phone call from an old friend. Due to varying degrees to which people keep in contact with the University, full contact information may not be available for all alumni and may limit the means by which you can contact them.
Your biggest job is simply to reconnect with people and get them excited about the reunion. You will be provided with a few key messages to communicate; however, the Alumni Association will take care of communicating most of the details of the weekend. Refer to the Volunteer Networking Guide for more info.
You are expected to be an active member of the committee, which includes participating in committee conference calls (two or three per year) and corresponding via e-mail, as necessary.
You are asked to attend one event, sponsored by President Casteen, during which you will be recognized for your committee service. Committee members are also encouraged to attend class sponsored events, such as class dinners and class panels.
