I recently moved to Arlington VA. A 2005/2006 Curry School graduate, I am a teacher and currently enjoying summer break while learning my new neighborhood. VICE PRESIDENT
Daniel Van Clief (Danny), ‘99 COLL
I graduated the CLAS in 1999 as a History major. While at the University I served as an honor advisor, Madison House volunteer, and member of St. Anthony Hall fraternity. Upon graduation I moved to Sydney, Australia, where I worked in the marketing department at Royal Randwick Racecourse, a thoroughbred racetrack. While there I met and married my wife, Anna, before returning to Charlottesville in 2001.
Upon my return to Charlottesville, I joined Musictoday, the online ticketing and merchandise service provider which evolved from the Dave Matthews Band fan club to serve hundreds of big name acts in the music business. At Musictoday I served as the Ticketing Fulfillment Director and later as Director of Client Services. After helping position the company for its eventual sale to Live Nation, I once again returned to Sydney, this time to pursue an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management. At the AGSM I undertook a marketing concentration and served as Class President. During Term 1 Finals Week Anna and I welcomed our son, Daniel Graham Van Clief, to the world. True to form, Daniel's first pacifier boasted a U.Va. logo on it.
Upon completion of my MBA in May, 2008, Daniel, Anna and I moved back to Charlottesville where I accepted an offer as VP Sales & Marketing with Sol Sage Energy, a start-up solar energy firm headquartered on the downtown mall. The firm's focus is solar PV installations on public and commercial rooftops, with an eye on reducing corporate carbon emissions one building at a time.

In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis, traveling, and staying connected to the University community. I especially love any opportunity to return to Charlottesville!

In September 2007, I began work at a law firm in Raleigh, NC, where my husband, Jason Baker, COL'00, and I have settled with our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Sydney. We look forward to welcoming our first child in early September 2008.
At Virginia, I was involved in the University Guide Service, Residence Staff, the International Relations Organization, Young Women Leaders, and Alpha Chi Omega sorority. I majored in Echols/Interdisciplinary with a Concentration in American Studies. Stephen Karl Blunden (Karl), '08 COLL
I graduated from the University in 2008 with degrees in History and Economics. The politics and economics of totalitarian regimes, in particular, attracted my attention. Soon after graduating, I joined Applied Predictive Technologies, a software development and consulting company in Arlington, VA.
During my undergraduate career, I participated in a variety of student activities. I extended my time in first-year dorms as a member of Resident Staff; traveled across the country with the club tennis team; supported the Honor System as an advisor; and served the community through Madison House.
I enjoy spending my free time exploring D.C.’s different neighborhoods, sampling food from its ethnically diverse restaurants, and playing sports. Washington’s location—close to my friends in other East Coast cities and not too far from my sister at U.Va.—is an added bonus.

Jade Craig, '06 COLL
I’ll be turning 26 at the fall 2009 meeting of the Young Alumni Council this year, and I was born and raised in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I graduated from the University in 2006 with a double major in French and Political and Social Thought. While a student at U.Va., I was president of the Webb House Council and a member of the First Year Judiciary Committee my first year. I was also a member of the University Guide Service, a program co-director for Madison, a student spokesperson for AccessUVA when it was first initiated and the co-chair of the Black Leadership Institute (BLI) in the Office of African-American Affairs. One of the contributions I made to the University was that the BLI founded the Donning of the Kente, a graduation recognition ceremony for black undergraduates that will celebrate its fifth year this school year.
Upon graduation, I joined Teach For America. I taught kindergarten in the Mississippi Delta for my two-year commitment and stayed for a third year. While teaching, I developed an interest in how to properly make jello and rice krispy treats for the letters R and K, and an obsession with turning six year-olds into second grade readers who have beaten the achievement gap for life, and can now become U.Va. graduates! As a corps member, I was a campus recruiter for Teach For America and a national spokesperson featured on its homepage and recruitment media. I was also given the inaugural Roger Malkin Fellowship, a designation given to one second-year corps member for excellence in teaching and outstanding contributions to the Delta regional corps.
Currently, I am in my first year at Columbia Law School in New York City. Instead of jello and companions, my new interests are finding restaurants from my favorite countries in Africa and Europe and free theater, and I have a newfound obsession with touring all of the five boroughs.

I enjoy playing basketball, watching movies, and reading books about almost anything. For the next two years I will be working as a U.Va. College Guide with the National College Advising Corps, an Americorps organization, at Bassett High School in Martinsville, VA where I will be a college counselor charged with encouraging high school students to attend college, helping them with FAFSA support, and teaching after-school SAT classes. Afterwards I plan to pursue a masters degree in public policy and possibly pursue a degree in law, where I hope to work either nationally or internationally on human rights development and poverty policy with non-profit and government agencies.

I graduated from the University in 2007 with a degree in chemical engineering and minor in engineering business. As a consultant at Deloitte, I work primarily with health care and life sciences organizations to identify new opportunities and markets for growth. $3 trillion a year in US spending is not enough! Next, I hope to build on my interests in health by pursing a dual-degree MBA/MPH to focus on fixing the US health care system and/or international public health development.
At the University, I served as a member of the University Guide Service, Residence Staff, 4th Year Trustees, President of SEAS' Engineering Student Council and North Atlantic regional councils, and founder of UVA's Unforgettable Lectures class and the "SEAS Abroad" engineering international resource tool. As an alumna, I am most proud to be a YAC member with the ability to continuously serve the current and future UVA community.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoyed participating in Student Council, the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, and research in the engineering school focused on the development of an "eye mouse" for use by paralyzed individuals. Following graduation, I completed a Masters in Computer Science at the University. At the same time, I also co-founded an Internet marketing firm, Topik Solutions, with a number of fellow Wahoos. I graduated from UVA in 1999 with a BA in Anthropology, concentrating in Archaeology – but don’t be fooled, a summer session digging in Central America cemented my status as an avid researcher, otherwise known as an “armchair archeologist.” I loved every minute of my 8 short semesters at the University, and tried to get involved in a range of groups and activities, including First Year Players, Alpha Chi Sigma (the national chemistry fraternity), and I enthusiastically joined the staff of the Biltmore Grill, fully embracing Corner life.
I moved to Richmond, VA right after graduation and joined the UVA Club of Richmond, and have worked and played with alums in my city ever since. I served as President of the Club for the 2006 – 2007 year, and continue to support the organization as our Membership Chair.
I am currently a Senior Account Manager at Direct Mail Solutions in Richmond, and live outside of the city in Bumpass (that’s right!) with my husband, Will, and our two children Haden and Andi. We are all eagerly anticipating the arrival of a baby brother this fall!

I am currently a high school English teacher and will spend this upcoming, fourth year, teaching at Hillside High School in Durham, NC, and coaching soccer there. Since leaving the University and beginning my work as a teacher, I have learned how important it is to be a good student, and wish that I had known how to be one while in college. While at the University I spent as much time with good people as possible, and too little time reading. I found many things to be excited about and commit myself to, most of which focused, in one manner or another, on supporting the University community in embracing its diversity and making the University a more welcoming place for all students. Some other activities were more selfish, but taught me a lot. After graduating, I lived and taught in Charlottesville for 2 years, helping me to understand it more objectively. I look forward to finding opportunities to help foster the University's growth in the future, and help students live lives beyond the serpentine walls.

I graduated from the University in 2003 with a double major in Politics & History. During my four years, I was involved in Student Council, Madison House and my sorority, Tri-Sigma. After graduation, I moved to Los Angeles. I didn’t have a job and didn’t know a soul, but I wanted to work in the motion picture industry. It’s been five years now and even though I’ll always be a Virginia girl at heart, I’m having a great time in the City of Angels. Soon after my move, I became involved with the UVA Alumni Club of LA and now serve as a Board Member and Service Chair. Last fall, I had the opportunity to co-chair a partnership project between the UVaClub of LA and the Madison House Alumni Council. This first-of its kind event enlisted the help of 40 alumni to package over 1,800 bags of food for needy families. For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Big Sister to an awesome 13 year old girl who will soon be a high school freshman. Professionally, I have segued from motion picture development into a more business oriented side of the industry. I currently work in Real Estate, Government & Community Relations at Paramount Pictures where I am fortunate enough to say that I love my job.
