How to Get Involved
Apply
Each year, the Young Alumni Council accepts applications from interested students in the current graduating class as well as alumni from older classes. Applications may be downloaded and returned via e-mail to Alumni Hall. If you know someone who would be an asset to the the Y.A.C., you can nominate them online as well. Nominations will be accepted year-round and nominees will be notified and invited to apply when a spot opens on the Council.

Duties of the Council Members
At the heart of the Council are the 36 alumni that comprise its membership, composed of 2 representatives from each of the 12 most recent graduating classes and 12 at-large members. The success of the Council depends largely on the leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication provided by the Council's members. These volunteers generate initiatives and activities, while the Alumni Association's staff works diligently to implement the endeavors.
Committee members' responsibilities generally include the following:
- Active participation on one of the Council's committees.
- Active participation in Council-related activities.
- Represent the Young Alumni Council, the Alumni Association, and the University whether they are on Grounds or in their respective community.
- Attend semi-annual meetings in Charlottesville (Homecomings and April), as well as participate in occasional conference calls as scheduled by individual committees.
Members serve for a term of three years and may be eligible for re-election to an additional three-year period at the expiration of their first term. From its inception, the Council has attempted to be a dynamic, proactive group. Each member is expected to be active and willing to take on responsibilities related to the goals of the Young Alumni Council.
