About the Award
Each year, the Young Alumni Council Service Award honors two outstanding alumni at an annual awards ceremony that celebrates individual service contributions. These two awardees each receive a plaque recognizing achievement, and each can direct a $1,000 donation, funded in his or her name from the award endowment, to any area of the University of Virginia.
Candidates will be considered whose actions demonstrate exemplary personal service and commitment to the University of Virginia. For example, candidates may have identified needs for change and found innovative solutions to ongoing or new issues faced by students, administrators, faculty and alumni; or through their lives and contact with others, advocated for and inspired others to serve the needs of the University of Virginia. Candidates may have exhibited the qualities of service and commitment the Young Alumni Council seeks to recognize in a single extraordinary endeavor or may have demonstrated their enduring affection and attention to bettering the University through service initiatives undertaken year-after-year.
Nominations for the Young Alumni Council Service Award may be submitted by individuals, alumni clubs and organizations, University of Virginia faculty, administrators, and employees, and others. Nominations for the 2008 Service Award are due by Monday, February 25, 2008.
